Cragg Farm is a working family farm, extending to some 275 acres (109 Hectares). The farm is all livestock, no arable as the land is to hilly. The farm is included in the Lake District Environmentally Sensitive Area. We have a Pedigree Dairy Herd of 50 milk cows and rear all our own replacement Heifers (young cows), we also have some beef cattle and a flock of 320 Pedigree Lleyn sheep.

The Kendal
Cragg Herd of Pedigree Holsteins
The 50 cows are milked twice daily, 6.30am & 5.00pm.
The milk is taken by Tanker to the local milk depot in Kendal. We calve
the cows nearly all year round, with the majority calving in the Autumn.
The cows are housed, depending on the weather from October to May, during
this time we feed them silage, conserved grass made during the Summer months.

The Sheep
We have a flock of 320 Pedigree Lleyn sheep.
They lamb from mid March to April and usually rear 2 lambs a year, occasionally
some ewes have 4 or even 5 lambs. We also usually have some pet lambs, these
are lambs that have to be hand reared for some reason. In June we shear
the ewes.
Throughout the year we regularly have the sheep in to carryout routine tasks.

Also on the farm we have other animals which you can see. We have to cats
& working sheep dogs which are around the farm yard.
In the nearby paddock we have Free Range Hens which provide the eggs for
your breakfast.
